“Keeping your word” I have been wondering why this very simple, respectful task falls short in the humanity scale. It’s interesting to me that we go around trying to control things we can’t and the things we do have control over we don’t utilize like keeping our word. Why don’t we keep our word? What makes it ok to betray the very fiber of our character? I personally am saddened to say that I expect it now. I don’t tend to hold on to anything I am told so I am not shocked when it doesn’t happen. Not that it does upset me or I don’t get disappointed, but at this time keeping one’s word seems to be one of those things you might see in a warrior film and not in real society.
By nature, I am one of those value/code driven types. I believe that when we don’t compromise our values/codes keeping our word is simple. What are your values/codes?
These are mine:
Spirituality – Knowing my inner being and how I deal with truth, love and courage.
Honor – the courage to stand for the truth against any odds.
Love – However wounded I am by my own understanding of love, I will awaken with wings open, sword at hand, and say thank you for another day of love.
Honesty – Respect for truth and the willingness to never deceive.
Humility – To find my place in the world not by my accomplishments but by the intrinsic value of all.
Justice – Devoted to truth for all.
Courage – To walk forward even when there is so much of the unknown lurking about.
Compassion – Non-judgment for all ~ even in my darkest hours.
Truth – Wisdom, intuitive with no judgment or opinions for if I do then I have made a mistake.
Sacrifice – to give all of myself in the name of love, loyalty and honor.
Valor – To always take action and always dare to live.
So I ask you once again, “What are your values/codes?”. Once you have a clear picture of what those are life and keeping your word will be as simple as breathing.
